Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.
Patton never ceases to amaze me with his knowledge and skills. He was a great leader of men, who while brash and crazy at times got things done. I have been reflective on this statement because we are preparing checklists for our setup and teardown teams. If we are to streamline things, we have to have an outline and yet the suggestions that people come up with and are willing to accomplish will be some of the most innovative.
Lt. General (Ret.) Hal Moore calls it pushing the power down. Let those who are under you be completely empowered to accomplish the task and you will be amazed. The less you are in charge the more you can accomplish (note: you are still responsible). I can’t wait to see what the best people come up with in the next few months at Hope Community.
