Enduring it longer and better

James 1:2-4

2 Dear brothers and sisters,t when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Even though I have read these Scriptures, this version (NLT) states the truth just a little different.  When you are tested, we should consider it an opportunity for great joy.    When you are tested, be happy!  Be joyful!  Even consider throwing a party!  Why?  Because testing means that you build endurance.

In my working out, I have learned when I work out and stress my body out  I build endurance.  What’s the point of building endurance?  Being able to endure more.  So I should be happy and celebrate that when my endurance is built, I will be able to endure longer better.  In some ways, this truth does not comfort me.  The fact that I need endurance promises the need to use it more.  In other ways, this truth has so much comfort.  If I can endure these things, then I will endure others better.

Dear God,

Let me endure well like Jesus did.  I want to endure the way He did for me.

  1. Short but sweet! It reminded me that we can have joy when life is tough because God calls us to live and act as eternal beings. Our lives are not defined by the present hardships we endure, but by the perfection and completeness that they guarantee through our relationship with Christ. Thanks for the thoughts. Can’t wait for your next post!
