Food as Fuel….

Something that I am learning is the difference between food as a luxury and food as fuel.  See for so long I just ate whatever I wanted without any concept of how I was fueling my body.

Tacos with flower tortillas, Egg McMuffins, copious amounts of Dr. Pepper.  Everything white.  No whole grains.  Hours of video games.  I am responsible for it all.

This last week, I learned of the concept of using food to fuel my body to achieve more.  Last week, we cleaned out all the bad stuff.  Good bye Cheetos…  Good bye Dr. Pepper.   Hello new body.  Hello best for my body.  Hello salads and goodbye ranch dressing on it.

Food was meant to give good calories that fuel our bodies.

Some foods are always going to be out.  I will probably never touch french fries again.  However, there will come a day when I will go and enjoy a good steak.

Today is not that day……

  1. Right on. Is counting calories the answer though? Sometimes, I get this feeling that I haven’t had enough intake of calories to burn throughout the day.

    • I think calorie counting is really only a tool. In the end, the situation requires an overall knowledge of your intake, an assessment of the health of that intake and an evaluation on the healthiness of that intake. I think we also need to analyze what our evaluation of what God desires for our bodies. We should be evaluating what we eat in relationship to sin. James states that if we know to do good and choose not to do it……

      James 4:15 -17
15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

I recognize these verses in relationship about not consulting God on major decision in our lives but I think they can apply to some of our small decisions as well. Most of us eat as if tomorrow does not depend on it. Most of us exercise as if our cardiovascular health doesn’t depend on it (We don’t exercise). We need to evaluate a healthy lifestyle based on what we believe Scripture says is best for us. God wants us to be healthy. Is a 14 oz steak healthy?

I don’t know if I am right. I just know that I strive to allow God control over my eating habits.
