Foolishness: The Way to Perish?

Scripture: I Corinthians 1:18 – For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Observation:  This scripture describes two types of people.  The first group contains those who will perish.  The second group comprises people who will experience salvation.  For the first group the knowledge (word) fo the cross means nothing but foolishness.  They cannot imagine the relevance or even the remoteness of what the cross could mean for them.  The second group has appropriated the knowledge in such a way that the power of God saves them.

Application: The old saying goes, “There are two types of people in the world.   This scripture proves it.  There will be those who perish without the cross and those who won’t perish because of it.  The goal given to us: help those need to cross the threshold from perishing to non-perishing.  The only way for that to happen is by the power of God.  We must be tuned to God’s desires and power.  John 3 tells us that He wants all to be saved.  Only God can cross the threshold but he invites us to be part of it in people’s lives.

Prayer: God, please help me to be aware of who you bring to my path and help me to share your word with them.  Help them to overcome what they see to be foolishness through your power and cross the threshold between perishing and not.
