Last Sunday in the MY Secret sermon series, we discussed addictions and how hard they break. We define addiction this way: Anything we substitute in place of God in our hearts. This definition serves to open our understanding of addiction. It allows us to take a serious look at things other than drugs in this category. We can carry an addiction to food, video games, or just about any other thing.
Take a look at these two different resources that I suggest to help with last Sunday’s sermon. The first is Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst. Food can soothe wounds inflicted by so many stimuli. We use food to keep our pains at arm’s length. The second book, Redemption, utilizes the Exodus story to help us understand God’s deliverance. God brings through a process of leaving our addictions and Redemption carries the road map to that process.
