I find it interesting in the story of Cain and Abel that I blame God for Abel’s death. It seems logical to me that a being who knows the death of an innocent is coming would prevent it. However, that’s not what God does.
He gives each man the ability to over come and then expects them to use it. Amazingly, God acts like what we expect a good parent to act like in today’s warning. He gives his child a warning. Cain, sin is crouching at your door and would devour you it you let it. He give Cain the ability to know what was coming and to avoid it. Yet Cain doesn’t do it.
He gave Abel the ability to overcome. We can surmise what happens to Abel. God is obviously just look at what happens to Cain. God removes him to protect society while meting out mercy. Scripture tells us that Abel’s sacrifice was accepted. James 1:12 (NIV1984) says, “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”
We can surmise that Abel overcomes death through belief in God.
So often we see death through our eyes. We still see it as a punishment and the belief that we are cutoff from this life. We should see it as a portal to another life. A life with God. Gandalf tells Pippin when viewing what looks like certain death, “End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path… One that we all must take.”
Death is a place for us to overcome, not fear. God has promised to give us that super power.
