Observation: So often talking back is a negative thing. But here, God communicates with Jacob through a dream. Jacob talks back. He responds to God with some basic covenant language. If God does this set of criteria, then He will be my God.
Application: Two way communication require two parties. Too often are prayers stand out because they are not two-sided. I deliver my shopping list to God. Or I hear from Him and just go on without any acknowledgment on my part. But in those quiet moments when we are truly communicating, I know what God wanted from me all along: acknowledgment that I heard Him. Not because He needs it but because I do.
Prayer: Father, let me hear from you and respond. Hear my cry and let me know that you heard me. Not by answering my prayer but by a sense of your closeness.
